Welcome to Royal Oak Baptist Church.
We are a diverse community of people who have one thing in common: we seek the transforming work of Christ’s Gospel; in us, our whanau, our community and our world.
For the first half of 2022, we are experimenting with ways of gathering as a church. This came about because of various things we were learning together through the 2020/21 Covid lockdowns. For the sake of growing as disciples of Jesus, we knew it was important for us to try some alternative ways of practicing our Christianity together.
On the first Sunday of each month at 10am, we will have an in-person service of worship as we have traditionally done. This is at our church building 114 Symmonds Street, Royal Oak. [For now, this requires a vaccine passport to be present, or you can join in via zoom.]
The second Sunday is a pot-luck meal, based in various homes (with a couple of groups at the church building to welcome any visitors). This time intentionally focusses on the relationships of the church, and can be a good space to invite others to enjoy. [Some groups require a vaccine passport and some do not – we can help you find the right one for you.]
The third Sunday is based in the same homes as the second week, but is a centrally curated service. We will have a sense of all hearing the same scriptures talked about, maybe even singing the same songs, but we will then respond to those things in a way that suits each of the groups we are in. [Some groups require a vaccine passport and some do not – we can help you find the right one for you.]
On the fourth Sunday we are aiming to engage in various acts of service with/for our local community (e.g. lagoon clean-up, working bee for a community group or location, etc.) For those unable to engage in these activities, an in-person devotional reflection on a Psalm will be held in the church building.
We are also proudly a part of the wider Baptist family, being a part of the Baptist Union of New Zealand.
We hope that you find the information you are looking for in these pages, but hope more that you will join us soon!
